Debating Calvinism

As the subtitle suggests, Dave Hunt and James White debate on a topic people regularly disagree on, Calvinism. Calvinism (view taken by James White) sounds like a scary word, but it is simply a theological view on God’s saving grace by God alone, without the help of man. In contrast, the Armenian view (view taken by Dave Hunt) is a theological view that says man has the power to choose God, better known as free will. There are five points to Calvinism that are subject to this debate:

Total Depravity- Man’s total inability to choose God.
Unconditional Election- God can choose he wants.
Limited atonement- Christ died only for his chosen.
Irresistible Grace- God’s grace cannot be rejected by his chosen.
Perseverance of the Saints- Once saved, always saved.

You can see from the five points how a book can be written on this subject. The book offers great viewpoints to support both sides of the debate. Both men presented their views with numerous scriptures from the bible to back up the points that they make. If you are a theological junkie, you will enjoy this book. At times the debate gets heated with verbal attacks on the other’s views, and other times the humor can be sensed in their words towards each other. Personally, I found myself agreeing with both sides at times, but I have a view that I support due to my own personal experience with God. Of course you will not here my view; because I did not write the book and my view will only lead to more debate. As long as we agree that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, then that is where we should leave it.
